You'll need good headphones and a quiet place where you can close your eyes. To discover the subtle beauty of this music, mindset and setting are key. You're entering a a world where common sense is obsolete, artistic frenzy is the norm, and the present moment melds with past and future.
"In my compositions there are always heavily improvised elements, little moments of spontaneous creation, plucked and preserved in their freshness. This music isn't carefully planned."
Despite this, one might feel as though these tracks have existed forever, floating out there in space with the asteroids before settling down peacefully onto Earth. Craig's release is ambitious; five volumes of material released in weekly succession, starting June 2nd. The haunting, soul-searching quality of the music reflects the critical time in his life after his father's suicide in 2021.
"The loss of my father was a huge wake-up call to me. I quit my day job and resolved to focus solely on my composition and music production skills. There were times where the grief was so hard, the only thing that could comfort me was listening to my own music."
Yet there is also a feeling of triumph; this is an artist who has worked through sorrow and is now a gigantic force to be reckoned with.
Craig's main instrument on these albums is the Moog Matriarch, which he purchased after moving to the Boise metro area in 2022 to be with his son. "I named her Ava, and together Ava and I were making special, cosmic magic happen."
These are engaging and challenging tracks to listen to, and the hope is with the right set and setting, you can hear this special cosmic magic happening.
